Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing employment of elderly over 65 years old. This study used data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging complied by the Korea Employment Information Service from the year 2008 to 2014 and panel logit random effect model. The results of the analysis are as follows.
First, it is figured out that the young-old is affected by sex, age, educational level, residential district, subjective health status, household income and total assets, and whether to receive a basic pension.
Second, on the other hand, the old-old is affected not only by sex, age, educational level, residential district but also by a presence of spouse and whether to live alone. Also, unlike the younger elderly, Health and Economic factors showed no significant results. In summary, the older elderly was more affected by socio-economic factors, and subjective health status had a positive impact on the young-old¡¯s employment. In economic factors, it was proved that household income, total assets and basic pension are main variables on only the young-old¡¯s employment.
Based on the results of this analysis, practical intervention and policy to enhance the employment of the elderly were discussed.
